Lando loved events like this enough to begin with, but the added excitement of having Oscar there, seeing him experience it all for the first time, had his heart racing just slightly faster than normal in his chest.
And, maybe reminding himself that this was Oscar's first rave was what planted the seed of what could easily be the stupidest decision he could possibly make.
But - Lando vividly remembered his first time being at a rave. One of his old mates pressing a pill into his palm with an easy grin, telling him to trust him. The music swallowing him whole. The warmth in his chest, how euphoric he'd felt, the impossibly perfect veil that seemed to drape over anything and everything.
He also remembered that he still had a couple of those same pills left hidden in his medicine cabinet that hadn't been touched since then.
Lando swallowed hard, spending a long couple minutes debating how stupid it would be to risk ruining his entire career, his entire life, really, to experience that again. With Oscar this time.

“I haven’t really been to a wedding where I’ve, uh… let loose. But, hey,” Dennis shrugged, “maybe I’m doing it wrong.”
“If I hadn’t already agreed to go to this conference, I’d offer to go with you,” Robby said casually. “Show you how it’s done. I’ve got a good track record as a plus-one, too.” Dennis had to say something. To interrupt. To shut this down. But what was he supposed to say? No, you can’t be my plus one, because I lied about my cousin, and there is no wedding, and it seems a little weird to bring a date to a fucking funeral– “Apparently parents love it when you bring home a doctor.”
And just like that, the bubble popped.
“I’m not gay,” Dennis snapped.
He had never hated the sound of his own voice as much as he did right then.

Or, Dennis is anxiously headed home for a "wedding" in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the details of which are increasingly fuzzy. Robby's got a medical conference in Omaha that same weekend. So they carpool. Steve loves it. He loves watching the band, the way they catch each other’s eyes and smile, all of them moving to the same rhythm–the one they’re creating together. He loves the steady heartbeat of the drummer, the way he bobs his head and grins as all the other musicians follow his lead. He loves the female backup singer with the long, curly red hair, dressed almost like a female Springsteen in tight black jeans and a white tank top. He’s mesmerized by Clarence Clemons, muscular arms gilded with sweat after two hours onstage but still showing no sign of slowing down, blowing his heart out into his gleaming saxophone. But most of all, he loves the Boss himself.
In the summer of 1984, Steve takes Nancy to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the Born in the USA tour. He learns something about himself along the way.
