The almost human look of disbelief in his eyes was first thing her mind registered as cold steel tore through the soft flesh of her stomach.
“It’s just a dream.” She speaks aloud to no one, mostly trying to reassure herself.
But she is not reassured. Nothing about the weight in her bones or the hollowness of her heart was reassuring.
Slender fingers run through pink locks and softly she messages her scalp, sighing, “It’s just a dumb, reoccurring dream. Probably brought on by something I watched as a kid.”
No amount of reasoning makes the feelings go away.

Summary
