Summary
Koschei's name was drawn the year before hers, and he slaughtered almost half the tribute field personally, claiming the first victory for their District and becoming an overnight sensation. Media darling Caesar Flickerman had dubbed him The Master, a title that stuck, and he plays his part well, but as soon as the cameras are off, darkness always comes floating back towards the surface. He mentored Theta while his own pain was still fresh, and dismissed her as a lost cause as soon as the second name was drawn. The other tribute for District 3 that year was Koschei's friend, classmate, and neighbor, and Koschei all but told her that he would throw her to the wolves and focus the entirety of his attention on supporting her male counterpart.
That favoritism did not matter in the end. His friend died first, and Theta won the shortest games on record. Thirty-six hours, one meticulously engineered mass slaughter, and it was over.
Fifteen years have passed since then, and he still has not forgiven her.

"She pulled at the edge of her hood, making sure it hid her features, then slid off the side of the overhang until she hung from the edge by one hand.
Her other arm found its target quickly, although to her surprise, it was only one man. She flicked her wrist, and a small knife was propelled from its hidden spot in her gauntlet just in time for the man's eyes to find her and his mouth to open in surprise.
The blade bore itself into the spot right between his eyes. He dropped, his mouth still open."

Summary
After the Master’s disastrous force regeneration attempt on the Doctor’s life, the two Timelords realize they’ve been maneuvered into their rivalry by forces unknown. Putting aside their differences, they decide to use the chameleon arch to hide as humans while they try to figure out who has it out for them. Starting a new life with Yaz, and the rest of the Doctor’s friends on Earth, they investigate the Timelord secret agency called Division, thwart alien invasions, hold down jobs at UNIT, and maybe become better people because of it.
But even in hiding they have to be careful. Someone’s still searching for them. And they won’t stop until they’re destroyed everything the Doctor, the Master, and Yaz have built together.
How far are any of them willing to go to protect their new lives and each other? They might have to figure out quicker than they’d like.
After all, a universe without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about.
