“And could you stop manifesting the word death?” Percy pleaded from the board.

Corey stared at Percy. “Where did you learn the word manifest? I didn’t learn that word until I was in, like, sixth grade – ”

“You’re thirteen. If you quit school two years ago like you said you did, then you were never in the sixth grade,” Michael pointed out.

    “That’s beside the point, Michael.”

“So is the time that you learned the word manifest,” Carmen said dryly. “And Michael. Get. Him. Off. The. Damn. Skateboard.”

“Swearing,” Michael reminded her. She opened her mouth in indignation. Michael gave Percy a hard shove before she could say anything and then Percy and the skateboard went zooming down the side of the skate bowl, Percy shouting for help and Corey and Carmen both shouting after him.

Or: Percy spent a lot of time on the streets as a kid, so he gets some fun-slash-weird friends on the way as a bonus. Cue tiny street-rat Percy pulling pranks with a drug dealer at his side. (Once a skater kid, always a skater kid, no matter how many times you save the world.)

    Summary

The divorce of their lead scientist from an international movie star causes predictable problems that, for some reason, nobody thought to predict. Contrary to what the leadership may think, the Petrova Taskforce has a functioning PR department, if only someone bothered to warn them in advance.

A chilling effect is the phenomenon in which an individual, organization, or group is prevented from exercising their legal rights, leading to self-censorship in the form of the restraint of information sharing or the abstinence from certain activities. This self-censorship is driven by the fear of potential repercussions and harm if actions are taken.
