He's never seen her before but he knows who she is – the producer had told him that she'd be the other guest. It's hard not to have heard of her really, the way every woman back at the office talks about her radio show around the coffee pot.
Maybe if he'd known she looked like this he'd have paid more attention to what they were saying.
“Nice to meet you,” he smiles eventually, turning towards her. “I'm Jaehyun.”
She watches him with sharp, catlike eyes for longer than would be considered polite before she holds her hand out palm down and her fingers loose, as if she expects him to take it and kiss her knuckles. For a moment he considers it.
“Ten,” she says and squeezes his hand once before she lets go.

The outline of John is obvious through the lace over the door, shifting nervously on the porch and smoking. When she opens the door she’s surprised by a small bunch of flowers wrapped in newspaper in his hand, his duffel at his feet.
“Marjorie,” he smiles as he sees her, and she gets to watch him slip behind his grin like he hadn’t just been shuffling around in front of the house.
She just returns his smile and waves him inside, leading him straight through to the kitchen.
“These are for you.” He holds out the flowers once they’re inside and he’s set his bag down next to the dining table. “Just a little something to say sorry for dropping in unannounced.”
Marge takes them and smells them, fresh and bright and lovely. “Bringing another man’s wife flowers, what will the neighbors think?”

Ten is writing her dissertation. She’s taken over the table between the kitchen and the lounge, piles of books around her that all have a spray of coloured tabs sticking out of them, looking like some sort of modernist flower arrangement. By now there’s enough of them on the table that they’ve started to form battlements and a fortress wall around her laptop – sometimes the only reason Mark knows she’s still sat there is because he can see her feet nervously tapping under the table.
In a word, Ten is stressed. Mark doesn't know how to make it better for her, but he'll try.
