Mike is chronically LATE. If he had missed his flight to California to visit El, how would that have changed the trajectory of his life? Let me tell you a story..
Mike and Will haven't really spoken in two years, not since Will moved to California. Will and El finished out school in Cali before moving to New York for College. Mike, Dustin and Lucas join them... only, Will and Mike don't know the other will be there.

Mike is nothing if not prepared, after a few conversations with his mother and some concerning looks, Mike wonders if she has clocked his ass and his potential love for his best friend. Why is that relevant? well he is standing at the Byers/Hoppers residence knowing full well that Will isn't here and he isn't looking for him. He needs a back up in case things go south once his family knows, and living with the maybe love of his life (Again) that only had a fleeting crush on him that is decidedly over isn't the greatest choice, but its kind of his last option.

Summary
Mikes POV from Season 5 Volume 2 - IE S5E5. This story falls within canon, taking into account all the footage released in S1-S5 and adding context to glances/looks and potential off screen content that fits with what we were shown including plot holes; making Byler more obvious AND giving them the respect they deserve. I will Be continuing this fic after the ending of S5 into college and post college if I can come up with enough content/have enough people that want to know but I will end it with a brief paragraph about what their life looks like for the future if not. The team are headed into the upside down for the final battle and almost everything has been said. Some of the characters write letters in case something happens to them, much like max did in season 4. This work is Mikes letter to Will in case something happens to him, in case he never gets to tell him how he feels... the keys to his mind, his heart and his soul... and all the secrets he has kept. This is a letter that will feature in a future fic that I'm still working on and will be referenced but not included in full. This is my first work I'm sharing so please give me feedback!
The main fic will be called "I lost him before I even knew he was mine" based from S5E5-Final and beyond - Mike finding out Will liked him, and he liked him back when he was 'over' him, it will feature pre epilogue mike trying to flirt with will and post epilogue Mike not knowing how to tell him. This letter is one of several he wrote to will but never gave him. it sits in a box next to the binder of Wills drawings until mike can be brave enough to give it to him... will he be?Series
