    Summary

This isn't Dahlia's first meeting with Venti, or even his second, but it's arguably what Dahlia would call the death of his working relationship with Barbatos. Or when Barbatos became Venti to him. This might sound strange, but when one is a devoted follower of a guy one's entire life and then said guy starts talking to one, there's bound to be some internal conflict. It's the turning point of their relationship, he would say. Whatever he calls it, though, this is where it starts:

    Creak.

    That's concerning.

Venti and Dahlia are friends, and then Dahlia has the misfortune of falling in love.

Dahlia's faith fractured, and with it, his whole world.
Seeking thrill and trouble, it was only natural that he fell in love with Mondstadt's most chaotic bard—only to discover that his lover was, in fact, his Archon. Then he became the Herald of said Archon and asked this same Archon to move in with him.
And as if that was not enough drama for him, Dahlia, despite the warnings of Barbatos, decided to challenge his fate and rewrite his own ending himself.

    Summary

It’s now his companion’s turn to smile softly.

“You know, my ma used to say that when we pass on—we become like those stars in the sky, a star of our own. I hope I shine bright when I go—so I can inspire people even in death.”

“Don’t say such things!” He’d said then. “I wouldn’t let you go—”

“But all mortals do go eventually. It is only inevitable,” he had replied.

“Then I’ll make you immortal,” he’d whispered softly. “Because I can’t let you go.”

It was the truth. He just couldn’t.

Not when they’d only spent such short time together.

“But you will have to eventually,” he’d replied, more solemn now.

“Then let me spend all the time I can with you now—and keep you close. So at least when you go, I’ll have memories of us to remember. Memories of us together.”

A year later, he sits at the battlefield, sunk down on his knees, lover dead.

Or in short flashbacks of Venti's past as he silently recalls when Barbatos became Venti.
