A hero is not born. He is built, only eleven years old, an orphan, handed a sword and told the goddess chose him. For years he believed it. Then he saw what the sword was aimed at. A princess is not powerless. She is simply fighting with the wrong weapons. She has been fighting the only way they allowed her to fight, and she is beginning to understand what that means. He is beginning to understand it too.

He was made into a sword before he was made into a man, pulled from the earth and pointed at evil and told that this was honor, that this was purpose, that this was enough. And between them the oldest story in the world unfolds again, the fruit and the fall and the question that has outlasted every civilization bold enough to ask it, which is simply this: if God is everywhere, then where exactly is God when it counts.
