There’s something Max will never say out loud.
Something that sits in his chest like a stone, crawls up his throat, and leaves him fighting for breath whenever he gets too close to it. He built his entire life around outrunning it. Around winning enough, driving fast enough, becoming untouchable enough that it would never catch him.
