There are things Macklin Celebrini knows to be objective truths. His identity as a beta is one of them. And since betas don’t have heats, only omegas do, it makes perfect sense that Mack didn’t think anything of his emotional instability this past week, or his increased clinginess towards Will. It’s perfectly reasonable that he didn’t think too hard about waking up this morning, an hour early, and with a headache, restless, and unsettled in a way he couldn’t quite name.

“You could’ve done better,” Leno’s saying, but he’s laughing. Will chuckles along and shakes his head, still watching Mack. Bedsy’s come up to him now. He slings an arm around Mack’s shoulder and leads him out into the backyard.
Will thinks of meeting Mack, the first time he saw his bright smile, and knows he never stood a chance. He thinks of the box under his bed for twelve years, only uncovered a few days ago. He thinks of everything else that led him right to this moment.
“Nah,” Will says with a smile. “I don’t think I could have.”
