Summary
The Great Dragon leans a little closer, regarding him with curiosity. “Wei Wuxian, you are our final hope.”
Wei Wuxian has to pinch himself again. “That doesn’t make any…”
“Your destiny has been written in the stars for eons. You will bring peace and prosperity to our wretched land. This is your fate, Wei Wuxian."
“Oh…” Wei Wuxian sucks in a breath through his teeth. “Uh, maybe you have the wrong guy?”
The dragon speaks calmly. “That is not possible."
When Wei Wuxian leaves his home and comes to Gusu, it’s with every intention of starting a fresh, new, quiet life. But that quickly flies out the window when he finds out he’s—supposedly—meant to fulfil a grand destiny and change the whole world for the better. On top of that, he’s meant to do this alongside the esteemed Prince Wangji of Gusu. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Except for the fact that:
1. The use of magic is strictly forbidden in the kingdom
2. He’s a sorcererWhat could possibly go wrong?

Who is this beauty? Lan Wangji has to know. But the man does not speak, and Lan Wangji cannot bring himself to say a word.

Wei Wuxian notices something strange about the rose petal. A discolouration, almost. It’s so easy to miss, so easy to overlook. He rubs it between his fingers and they come back red.
His heart sinks. “Oh…Lan Zhan…”
“It’s dirty,” Lan Wangji repeats. His own hands are clasped in his lap, fingers tightly knitted. Now that Wei Wuxian knows what to look for, he spots that same shade of red everywhere. On Lan Wangji’s clothes, on those graceful pale hands…
“Lan Zhan, this is serious,” Wei Wuxian says. “You’re—” he glances back down at the red—at the blood—on the petal. “How long has this been going on?”
Lan Wangji hesitates. “A long time.”

Or: Lan Wangji is dying from hanahaki and refuses to reveal who he is in love with. Wei Wuxian strives to find this person before it's too late.

Summary
“Who are you?” Jin Ling says, slowly stepping closer toward Jingyi. “What do you want from us?”
The young man before them smiles politely and bows. Jingyi doesn’t think he’s ever seen someone bow with such perfect posture. It stings a little to consider that this random person could bow in a more Lan-like fashion than he ever could.
“You may call me…” The young man stops short, his eyes darting toward Jingyi before he turns his gaze to Jin Ling again. “Wei Yuan.”

After his night hunt takes a turn for the worst, Lan Jingyi finds himself trapped in a cave with Jin Ling and a demonic cultivator.
It goes about as well as you'd imagine.

Summary
Wei Wuxian can barely stand on suibian. His legs are shaky, he’s panting heavily, and his control is abysmal. When Jiang Cheng manoeuvres to the left, twisting his body sharply to avoid getting hit by a branch, Wei Wuxian almost careens off his sword when he tries to replicate the move. For the first time, Jiang Cheng is the one to prove victorious. He’s—better than Wei Wuxian.
“Go away,” Jiang Cheng tells him. “You’re going to get yourself killed.”
Wei Wuxian laughs, teetering on the verge of hysterics. “Wouldn’t be the first time.”
Or: Jiang Cheng tries to fix his relationship with Wei Wuxian while coming to terms with the fact that now, since Wei Wuxian is in Mo Xuanyu's body, the brother from his memories may be long gone.

As soon as Jiang Cheng felt the onslaught of coughs making its way up from his chest, he made haste to exit the conference hall. Sect Leader Yao had been going on, or rather demanding, that his sect be given tax relief this year because floods had ruined their crops and Chief Cultivator Lan Wangji, in spite of his infinite patience and stoicism, was starting to grow irritable. Probably eager to get back to Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng’s mind supplied as he tried his best to slip out the Gentian Hall unnoticed, ignoring the pair of unreadable golden eyes and Jin Ling’s hushed whispers of ‘jiu-jiu!’ that followed his retreating back.
OR, Jiang Cheng is dying from unrequited love, and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian almost don't find out until it's too late.

But then Lan Zhan touches him and whispers to him, tells him to reach, and Wei Wuxian resists until he can’t anymore and then—it’s there.
Not his golden core, but a golden core. Or rather, the bright seed of one.
