During his club days, when he was always allowing himself to be whisked away in random hotels for nights on end with strange older men, he’d always liked when they’d get the rooms with the huge windows, so afterwards in the middle of the night Ian could slip out of the bed and stare down at the city for hours. While the view had always been entrancing, Ian almost grows sick from the memories - still fresh and visceral, like an open wound inside his head - of just how suffocatingly lonely it’d felt. He’d felt so distanced from real people, like he was being allowed to look at a world he was no longer able to touch.
“I think you owe me more since you put it in.” Mickey mumbles, most likely for the sole purpose of annoying Ian, which it does.

Summary
He hates this – hates the distant ache in his chest even with Ian flush against him, hates the gaping hole he feels in his heart at the thought of taking the next step in this shitshow of a relationship. That hole becomes deeper and wider as he is reminded that this is probably the last thing on Ian’s mind, how he has quite literally fucking laughed at the prospect of marrying Mickey before, either brought up solely for the purpose of a joke by Mickey or others – and the thing is, Mickey had laughed, too, but he doesn’t feel like it anymore. Instead of viewing it like an unattainable impossibility, Mickey yearns for it, and not only for the validation that would come with Ian wanting to marry him – Mickey wants to tie the knot and settle down, perhaps has always done so, ever since he was a teenager and had a permanent vendetta with the shower.
Ian’s eyes are on him, and he can feel them, but he still doesn’t look down.
or, ian and mickey fake a marriage proposal every other week to get free food, and it's never been a big deal. until it is.

“Fucking what?” Mickey scowls, but his fingers stretch closer.
“Stop waiting for me to leave,” he replies quickly.

Summary
Ian just groans and lets his head fall on to Mickey’s shoulder, scooting down in his seat until he can. Mickey reaches a hand up to Ian’s cheek, letting it fall liquid and heavy, his thumb brushing across Ian’s cheekbone like it’s his favorite thing in the world. Ian smiles and Mickey can feel it, the edge of it pushing against Mickey’s palm like the world’s softest razorblade.
