Iida leaned in, smiling, and for the first time Shouto recognized the universal human capacity for guile in Iida. There was no such thing as a truly honest person in this world; he couldn’t believe he let Iida fool him.
“You’re going to be the decoy.”

Jason lets himself look at this Nico. This Nico can't mind—wouldn't mind—right? He's old and grey and he can't possibly care about the feelings of a twenty-seven year old kid who’s been dead for thirty years.
“I—” Jason falters. He feels a rush of pained gratitude for Nico’s husband, for the man who helped Nico’s eyes become so much warmer as he got older. “I wish I could thank him.”
Nico tilts his head. “Thank who?”
“Your—your husband,” Jason manages, his throat dry and sore, aching. “For taking care of you. For protecting you.” Jason ducks his head, unable to look Nico in the eyes anymore. “For making you happy.” The last part comes like it's wrenched from the back of his throat, whispered and strained. For making you happy when I never could.

“To Italy,” Nico clarifies, just in case Jason didn’t follow. Nice of him, Jason thinks, because his brain hasn’t quite gotten the memo that Nico’s standing in his cabin, asking him to go to Italy with him.
