Summary
King Jongseong ruled Oakhaven with an iron fist and a paranoid heart, trusting no one within his den of wolves—save for his court jester, Jaeyun. To the King, the simpleton fool was a mindless sanctuary; to the fool, the King was a target. When the palace falls from within, Jongseong is stripped of his crown only to find himself trapped in his own chambers with the mastermind of the rebellion. Summary
Desire. That’s the one thing that never dies.
Omitted truths are easier than outright lies. Jungwon tells himself he’s protecting Jongseong by staying away, starving himself until his pulse is a ghost of what it used to be. He stays home, survives on store-bought vegan substitutes, and ignores the way his fangs ache every time he remembers the heat of Jongseong’s skin.
But when a new predator starts circling the only person who makes him feel alive, Jungwon realizes that his “noble” distance has only left Jongseong unguarded. He’s forced to decide what’s worse: being the monster who claims him, or the saint who lets him be taken.
In the end, Jungwon would rather be a monster with Jongseong than a saint without him.
If Jongseong still wants him, he would never let him go again. And if he was gone—if Sunghoon had already laid a finger on him—then Jungwon would remind the city why his kind was feared long before the lights were ever turned on.
