eren is stationed at the kitchen counter with his back to jean and his attention focused on the blender. his phone is tucked between his cheek and his shoulder as he and levi stumble through more terse dialogue, leaving his hands free to scoop and dump protein powder into the mixture. gorgeous dark hair is tied away from his face in a half-up style, and a gray, long-sleeved compression shirt hugs him like a second skin, accentuating his sculpted yet lithe physique.
all of that is normal—expected, even. it’s what’s below the waistline that makes jean feel like someone’s struck a match between his thighs.

something appears to occur to vox all of a sudden, as he looks down at angel with alarm, and his gaze proceeds to flicker between him and the room around them.
“wait a minute—how long have i been dead?”
angel blinks up at him. “wh—… two years. why?”
vox sputters, expression tightening with bewilderment. “that can’t be fucking right—” he starts, prying angel off of him with incredible ease—a kind of strength he’d never exhibited in life. “i know for a fact i’ve been in hell at least seventy years. either there’s some kind of fuckery going on with the passage of time there—which wouldn’t be that surprising, i guess—or your little …” he gestures vaguely with his long, talon-like claws, “… séance, here, got its wires crossed somewhere.”

after his serial killer, cult leader (ex-)boyfriend dies in a mass suicide, angel spends two years studying the occult to try to communicate with him in the next life. when he’s finally able to summon him, he arrives looking much different than he remembers, and going by a new name—but either way, angel is determined to get through to him after their messy breakup leaves him desperate for closure.

trying to get through to eren has never been easy, nor is it a task for the faint of heart, but never had eren pulled away from him like that, like he couldn’t bear his touch, like he needed to get as far away from him as possible, and quickly. jean ponders if he should be offended, but prior to an achievement of any clarity on that, the roots of his concern spread deeper through his stomach and anchor just above his navel.

“dad?” he addresses groggily, holding the phone up to his ear as he rolls over to lie on his back. “what’s going o—?”
“you should come down to the station,” his father interrupts, an irritated edge to his tone, likely due to having to call jean so many times. is it really his fault that he was asleep at three in the fucking morning?
jean grumbles, scrubbing at his left eye with a closed fist. “what? why?”
his father seems to let up a little, a gentle sigh pushing through his nares before he answers, “because your boyfriend is sitting behind bars right now.”

“how were your dreams?” jin asks.
evidently, having lived the lives they have, it simply pays to expect the worst. so they still ask every morning, even if one of them hadn’t prior been startled from repose by the other’s violent response to another disturbing dream.
hwoarang lowers the futon cover gradually, revealing a fiery bedhead and an attentive gaze that already looks in jin’s direction, studying his face as he comes into view once the cotton no longer obstructs his vision. even his blind eye seems to focus on him, the missing iris tangible even if invisible. “they were fine,” he answers, nose poking over the cover, which faintly muffles his voice. “no nightmares. what about you?”
the broader man exhales airily, momentarily closing his eyes. hwoarang’s eye does not leave him.
“no nightmares,” jin replies, voice as pensive and soft as it always is. hwoarang knows he is telling the truth.
