“Maybe stay inside for a bit,” Keith says, shrugging out of his hoodie. “I’ll walk you home when your parents blow up your phone about curfew.”
“You gonna fight a coyote for me?” Lance snorts.
“Yeah, why not?” Keith smirks and sinks into the couch too. His arm casually curls over the back of the couch behind Lance, like he’s done dozens of times. He shrugs nonchalantly and chuckles. “If I don’t, you’ll have to stay here all night with me.”
The air feels different. And it’s not that Keith changed it. That’s how he always talks, but this time his words are a reminder of how Lance has been feeling lately, the emotions he’s been tamping down. His neck gets warm and his mouth dry. Staying there, all night with Keith, doesn’t seem a terrible idea. And suddenly, he doesn’t really care about hiding that.
“I uh… wouldn’t hate that,” Lance tries to say casually, but his voice cracks. He can feel Keith’s eyes on him. Lance clears his throat and shifts an inch closer. “I’d actually… like that a lot.”
