“Did you hear any of that?” Jon asked flatly, and Martin realised he’d spaced out twice in less than a minute.
“Oh, I… uh… No. Sorry.”Having a few years retail experience under his belt at that point, Martin waited for Jon to say something unnecessarily cruel or demand a free drink for his wasted time, but instead he just exhaled slowly before saying, “Alright… Shall I repeat myself? You’re… present?”
Martin paused. “... I-I think so?”
“Right, well, I’ll have a caramel cappuccino and lemon blueberry scone.” Jon held out his card, blinked as if only just remembering his manners, and added, “Please.”
