Summary
It was probably a good thing that no one assumed that Mel and Frank could possibly be dating. They had agreed to keep it a secret, after all.
But, come on. Not one rumor? Really?
It was starting to piss Frank off.

Summary
"Try here," he directs. Her hand caresses his nape before her fingers find his carotid. She bites her lip.
"Hey," she murmurs. "You're a bit tachy, yourself. But you haven't had very much." She motions to his deserted beer.
His eyes drop to her lips and he swallows. "Probably something else, then. Maybe you need a new differential diagnosis."
Her face heats and a strange warmth pools in her gut. This is dangerous. She needs to move back. She can stop things before they get weird. Before she makes them weird. She removes her hand from his neck. Her fingers tip toe their way up Frank's tie and hesitantly land on his chin. She traces her pinky along his lower lip. She tracks its movement, catching the bob of his Adam's apple in her periphery.

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

It's August, a few weeks after the events of July 4th, and Mel's riding high. Things, it would seem, are finally looking up.

“Langdon’s wife’s caught up in a trauma, she’s gonna come up once she’s free.”
“Alrighty, then.”
“My wife…” he asks, “is she hurt?”
“No, no.” Dr. Mehta reaches for his arm, Frank looks at him.
“Then why’s Abby in the pitt?”
Dr. Mehta widens his eyes for a moment and nods once. “Doctor Langdon, can you tell me what year it is?”
“Twenty twenty three, right?”
Dr. Mehta only shakes his head.

Summary
“If you stare any harder,” a voice says, startling Frank where he stands leaning against the charge desk with his arms tightly folded across his chest. “You’re gonna burn a hole through the back of Dr. Miller’s head.”
He glances over at Dana, where the charge nurse mirrors his position, and emits a soft grunt in response.
It wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Summary
“Sweetheart, where is Mel?” he softly asked, voice breaking at the end. Mel?
“Mel?” Robby asked. In any other situation, his face would have been comical. Langdon ignored him, giving the chief attending a taste of his own medicine from the past year.
Penny’s lips curled, tears pooling at her eyes. She was about to start sobbing, and Trinity yanked the sides of the gurney up, getting ready to move her inside. “Mel’s hurt, Daddy.”***
When Mel is in a serious car accident with the Langdon kids, its up to Trinity to become everyone's favorite emotional support coworker.

For a moment, he debates how vaguely embarrassing this is, jerking off alone in a lumpy motel bed, probably thinking of some half imaginary version of his wife (several asterisks there, thanks,) or maybe Nikki Bella circa 2011. Whichever feels less humiliating, one hand on his cock and one spread flat across his chest, like he could push the embarrassment straight back through.

“Mmm, I wouldn’t phrase it like that.”
