Summary
Mike joins a LARP for the first time and keeps his helmet on because being a paladin is easier than being himself. After one mistake, he’s introduced to the “paladin doubt” mechanic and keeps ending up confessing to the same calm cleric in purple robes.
Then Max drags him to a coffee shop, and Mike realizes the barista smiling at him is the same cleric who’s been hearing his confessions every weekend.
From there, things get complicated. Mike knows exactly who Will is but doesn't tell him. Will develops a crush on the quiet, devout paladin who kneels for penance and never takes his helmet off.

Summary
Mike Wheeler wrote a fantasy saga where the hero's sword is cursed, rotting away whenever he's late. He hates touring, he hates Hollywood, he hates silence, until, during a tour in New York, a stray puppy that smelled just like Will gives him a purpose again. A clue.
Will, on the other hand, learned that promising is the most dangerous thing in the world. He promised to stay, but when the test was positive, he packed everything and vanished into the night. He spent the next five years raising an asthmatic boy who was the spitting image of Mike Wheeler. He never told him.
And he never would.
