Tommy sighed as he closed the door behind him. He let the backpack slip down his arm and land with a thump onto the floorboards.
He scrubbed at his eyes, tiny fists curled up tight.
He heard soft footsteps make their way towards him, rounding the corner as his dad came into view.
The brunet already had a concerned, soft look on his face. He probably saw Tommy’s head hanging down while walking home from where he peeked through the window.
Or, Tommy doesn’t get a Valentine. Wilbur, his father, decides to make it up to him by going a bit overboard in his celebrations.
If any CCs state they are uncomfortable with this kind of fic, then I will take it down!

Tommy lurches, and through the haze he can feel a hand reach out to steady him. He looks up, and there are tears on Wilbur's face.
“They found out,” Tommy says, and promptly passes out.

There was a reason the native peoples of the area called it “the dead mountain”.
The story of the expedition became a ghost story that the kids would tell each other at night. Whilst Tommy didn’t believe in ghosts, he also knew that whatever was inside that cave was no ghost.
“It doesn’t look like you’re going,” Ranboo said in a teasing tone.
Tommy wasn’t a coward, but he was a fool, so he walked inside.
