Sometimes, Kazuki jokes about having two children.
It's becoming more evident why, like the morning Rei tries to make breakfast. The pancakes char because he leaves the burner on too high and syrup spills down the cabinets when, as he’s trying to herd the smoke into the fan, his arm knocks the bottle over. Kazuki wakes up before any of it’s been remedied, and even if he greets Rei with a kiss and a chipper promise that everything’s fine, he still puts on his apron a little more sluggish than usual.
He always says Rei gets a pass for not knowing things, but how long will it be before Miri learns faster and Kazuki sees them as too similar? How long before Kazuki longs for someone who can function without their hand being held?
Miri's adoption shines a light on just how little Rei's able to care for himself. It leaves him insecure, worried, and entirely determined to show Kazuki how capable he really is.

“You’re so stupid,” Chuuya grumbles, pulling the wire of the plug out of the vacuum. “I can’t believe the kids at the Sheep are way better at doing chores than you.”
Dazai’s expression falters, not that Chuuya can see it.
“If Chuuya wanted someone to do chores, maybe he shouldn’t have invited me to stay at his house in the first place,” Dazai says. He said it with the instinctive desire to joke, and while his smile steadily remains, it now feels empty over his lips.
It's not that Dazai doesn't want to do house chores, it's mostly because he doesn't know how. He would rather let Chuuya think that he's being lazy than stupid though.
