This isn’t the first time Suguru has hiked this mountain. He knows these trails well enough that something like this shouldn’t have escaped his notice. Yet he’s never seen this shrine before.
His gaze shifts toward the crumbling stone tablet mounted at the top of the torii gate. Most of the inscription has been worn smooth, but faint traces of kanji still remain visible.
Mountain Shrine of Gojo.
He frowns slightly.
Or, after discovering an abandoned shrine hidden in the mountains, Suguru finds his life intertwining with the god inside it.

Throughout the story, the protagonist describes love as something warm, bright, and overwhelming. Every glance from the love interest sends her heart racing. Every small interaction leaves blush on her cheeks. Every conversation they share has her hanging on to each of his words.
Satoru absorbs everything, but he’s still unable to fully wrap his head around it.
Is it true? Can another person really cause that kind of reaction?
More importantly, what exactly is the emotion she’s describing?
Satoru doesn’t have an answer.

“…do I even want to know what’s happening?” Shoko sighs, eyebrows furrowed.
“A curse got him,” Satoru says proudly.
Suguru’s eyes narrow. “And whose fault was that—“
“Suguru, be quiet.”
His mouth snaps shut so fast it’s audible. Immediately, his hand flies up to his face, eyes widening as he tries—and fails—to force his jaw open.
Whatever protest he tries to voice comes out muffled behind his closed mouth.
Or, Suguru is hit with a cursed technique that forces him to obey any command and answer every question truthfully.

“Do what?” Satoru asks.

“Yeah?” Satoru shrugs, leaning back against the bench. “Thought I’d be nice for a change.”
Suguru doesn’t buy it. “When have you ever done that? You don’t act generous for no reason. Not with strangers.”
“Wow,” Satoru says, mock-offended. “Do you hear yourself? Maybe I’ve changed. Maybe I’m maturing.”
Suguru just gives him a dry look.
“Or maybe I just thought she was cute,” he says, tipping his head to the side. “Ever think of that?”

“...Huh?” Satoru frowns.
“Why are you in my room?”
For a second, Satoru laughs. “Oh, I see. Funny.” He smirks, reaching over to tug on a strand of Suguru’s inky hair. “Don’t you think it’s too early for this?”
Suguru jerks back, flinching slightly from the touch.
That wipes the grin clean off Satoru’s face.
Or, a curse causes Suguru to lose all his memories of Satoru. To get those memories back, Satoru has to get him to fall for him again.

Geto just blinks.
Ijichi continues, like the good employee he is. “Legally, you’re listed as his next of kin, so—”
“Wait—hold on.” Geto’s voice sharpens. He shakes his head like he’s trying to knock the absurdity loose. “What? Go back—What did you just say?”
Ijichi takes a breath and starts again. “Gojo is… dead.”
Geto shakes his head immediately. “No, that’s—is this some kind of joke? You’re fucking with me. This is some… this is just one of his—”
Ijichi doesn’t speak. Just shakes his head. The lie is heavy in his throat.
Geto’s smile crumbles. “Oh my god.” He takes a step back like the floor moved under him. “Are you serious?”
Who needs proper communication when you can fake your death and leave your kids to gather intel on your ex?

“I don’t think I can do this,” Suguru blurts into the phone.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Shoko’s voice crackles against his ear. “You’ve been planning this for months. Literal months. You’ve wanted this since, like, forever. You’re doing this.”
Suguru doesn’t answer right away. He presses his eyes shut, mouth tight. The pressure in his chest hasn’t let up.
“Shoko,” he says finally. “He saw the ring.”
“So what?” she argues. “That ruins the surprise, sure. But it doesn’t ruin you proposing.”
“No, that’s not it.” His shoulders sink. “Ever since I think he saw it, he’s been all—” He lifts his hand, gesturing vaguely, helplessly. “Quiet.”
And that is an issue. Because Satoru is never quiet. Not like this.
Or, Suguru just wants to propose to Satoru. What can go wrong?

Satoru is so entranced, he barely registers Megumi and Yuuji getting into the car.
“Who’s that?” Satoru asks, his eyes still locked on the man outside.
Megumi follows his gaze, frowning slightly. “Our teacher…?”
From the back seat, Yuuji leans forward, squinting toward the dojo entrance. “Oh, Geto-Sensei?”
“Geto, huh?” Satoru rolls the name around on his tongue, testing it. Then the realization slams into him. He whips his head toward them so fast it nearly gives him whiplash. “He’s been here this whole time?”

Satoru tensed. That wasn’t Suguru. “Who the hell are you?”
Silence.
“Hello?” Satoru pressed.

Suguru can’t believe he's admitting this, but he desperately wants Satoru to annoy him again. Literally anything would be better than the awkward distance Satoru holds him at.
Instead, Satoru makes a face of disgust. He backs off Shoko, choosing to walk an arm’s distance away from them.
Suguru would’ve found his expression hilarious if he wasn’t so distraught.
Or, Satoru keeps avoiding Suguru. Suguru feels like he’s going insane.
