Everyone knew Dick was overprotective, the definition of a helicopter brother. It was easier to just accept it rather than trying to fight him compulsively checking you over for injuries. That was just who he was. Everyone knew it.

Summary
During the invasion, Katara is separated from the group and is taken prisoner along with the adults. Zuko, when finally deciding to follow his heart and help the Avatar, realizes to prove himself to the Avatar he must save Katara and return her to them. So he doesn't yet confront his father and continues to pretend to be the perfect prince, waiting for the moment he can escape with the Avatar's waterbending master.
Katara, surrounded by enemies, makes a plan of her own: to seduce the Fire Prince. Then kill him.
Or if Katara was captured by the Fire Nation.
