Summary
Retired from his days as a Closer, Dazai has fairly maintained a mundane life in Yokohama, away from his family and past. Mundane, if you don't count the dreams he keeps having about a faceless presence from that one time he had entered the afterlife- the Beyond- after his grievous accident.
So on another trivial morning when he is brooding over the irrepressible desire to find out the identity of the person, his past hounds upto him uninvited.
Dazai is urged back into the life of a Closer, under the condition to help a boy who claims to have lost his soul.

Summary
The girl opens her mouth, but a gasp of pain swallows her retort. She squeezes her eyes shut, her nails digging into Dazai's skin. Her voice levels down to a grating whisper, "Help me before I kill you."
"Shouldn't you be pleading?" The witch jibes, "You're at my complete mercy, you little thief."
Or,
The solitary existence of Dazai on her island is more often than not marked with violence. It's unsurprising when a laden canoe ends up on her shore, steered by a pirate on the verge of death.
The witch reasons that she should save her visitor, just this once, to indulge herself the satisfaction of a life in her control. -

Summary
Dazai registers that no matter what staggering amount of possibilities he could have threaded out, nothing would have prepared him for this anyway. He has no control over the present, never had any. Chuuya is here, now, with Dazai, on his own accord, and not because Dazai has been a mastermind at luring him in.

“Hey, shitty Dazai, let’s go out.”
Dazai, who started to walk again after composing himself from their almost crash, stumbled a bit on his next step while his head snapped in Chuuya’s direction with an alarming crack. He regarded Chuuya with one curious eye, then he chuckled.
“Don’t be silly chibi, we are already outside. Your tacky hat is clearly eating your bra–”
Chuuya’s irritation flared anew. From the corner of his eye, he could clearly see the two figures coming closer and closer, and he knew he had only mere seconds until the inevitable would happen.
“No, you fucker. I meant, go out with me,” Chuuya pressed on, throwing all his pride and dignity out of the window, then he gulped around the dry cotton suddenly clogging up his throat before he uttered his next words. “As in, date me for the week.”
