The Tour de France.
One of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, known by everyone, the pride of a country, the biggest event in the cycling season. Months worth of preparations, countless hours of sweat and tears, strategies with back-up strategies with back-up strategies for if the back-up strategies failed, every move planned to the second, barely recovered injuries and weeks of preventing more injuries.
All of it was meticulously planned down to the smallest detail by every party involved so that the only thing that could go wrong was in the hands of the peloton.
Turns out that someone, somewhere, somehow, managed to screw it up.
Spectacularly.
