    Lan Zhan suddenly realized that he could hear a very faint rustling sound from inside the room, and his breathing stilled so that he could hear better. Was there an intruder inside Wei Ying’s room? Surely if it were Wei Ying himself he would be making more noise, chattering to himself or knocking something over…but this was the faintest, lightest sound, as if someone were trying to be quiet. Lan Zhan leaned his face closer to the door, listening.

    At that moment, he heard a soft whimper, almost as if someone were in pain, and then a breathy gasp. “Lan Zhan…”
