There’s a sheen of sweat on his skin, layering on top of the scales you had only just discovered minutes ago. You would be worried for his safety if he hadn’t just told you exactly what is going on.
“Can you repeat that?” you ask dumbly, frozen where you are. It’s not that you hadn’t understood his words, it's just that you can’t quite comprehend what’s going on.

“‘m in rut, heat, whatever you humans like to call mating cycles,” he repeats hoarsely. He shivers against your hand and you feel his whole body writhe beneath you.
