Summary
For the past three months, Marnie Simmons has worked tirelessly alongside the BAU solving cases. From the sidelines, she's watched the team function as a family, but so far, she's been unable to find her place within it. Sure, no one was cold or cruel towards her; they were just merely distant. Though secretly desperate for a deeper connection, Marnie pushes forward, never letting her hopes come to light. Surely eventually dinner invitations turn into drinks, which turn into sleepovers, which turns into close relationships with coworkers.
Of course, Marnie isn't the only one feeling this distance. Occasional eye contact lasting too long, slight sarcastic remarks, accidental touches. Though he didn't want to, Spencer Reid couldn't help but pay too much attention to her. Not that their relationship makes much sense, since she usually doesn’t trust men and would rather spend her evenings partying than watching Dr. Who. But when a laundry list of concerning symptoms begin burdening her hang outs with Spencer, she turns to her therapist, who provides a terrifying diagnosis:
Love.
But she can’t be in love with Spencer. Love isn’t real. And even if it was, someone with her history could never be worthy of his heart.
So… there has to be a cure. Even if it’s finding him his happily ever after while she watches from the sidelines.
