Work Text:

"Angel!" I can just see his blond hair bobbing up and down further along the pavement. I slam the door, swallowing hard, my heart beating at the speed I'd just been driving through the streets of Soho. I feel the little box in my pocket, pressing against my thigh with every step as I start walking after him. "Angel!" He lifts his head slightly as he hears my voice, stopping in his tracks. He turns, muttering apologies to the people jostling into him and giving him evil glares. He smiles as I approach and my stomach turns, nervousness creeping into my throat.

"Aziraphale! I, uh... " my voice is slightly higher than usual and I take a moment to gather my thoughts and to take a deep breath. He's looking up at me with a patient smile on his face and his green eyes glittering with curiosity. I feel a small smile of my own creeping onto my face, "I wanted to ask you something." The box is soft with velvet against my fingers as I fumble for it in my pocket. I sink down onto one knee and hold the box up to him, "Aziraphale, will you marry me?"

His eyes widen and his jaw drops as he stumbles a small step back. I can feel my heart thumping in my ears, the bibbing of cars and chatter of human voices merging and growing into a deafening background roar as I wait for him to speak. I feel like I'm drowning and I wish I hadn't said anything. "M-m-marry you?" he finally stammers, still staring down at the ring in the box I'm holding. I just nod vaguely, suddenly feeling the sharp pain of the grit I'm kneeling on and the whispers of demons tearing at my heart.

He absently runs his fingers through my hair, sinking down onto his knees in front of me, cupping my face in his hands. I feel his breath against my cheek as he leans in to kiss me. I close my eyes and feel warmth burning inside me. Not the devilish fires of hell, but the beautiful flames of love that only the kisses of my angel can light in my chest. "Yes, Crowley" his whisper against my burning lips brings me back to reality, "marry me."

Everything in me is shaking, relief flooding through me as he helps me to my feet. I give him a cautious smile and he throws his arms around my neck, knocking a small breath of laughter out of me. I hug him tight, breathing in his cologne that I know so well and feeling my heart beating like a restless animal in a cage. I can't help smiling, Aziraphale wants me and that's all that matters. His lips linger on the tattoo above my jaw and a shiver of pleasure runs down my spine. He smiles at me with a playful glint in his eyes, "Can I see the ring?" I open the box for him and he looks down, reaching for where the ring should be, then stops, his hand falling back to his side.

"Oh, uh... it must have fallen out when you hugged me" I mutter. He looks up at me with an indignant expression on his face, "Crowley!" I hold my hands up in defence, shrugging my shoulders. He sighs and starts looking around on the pavement, "Well, it has to be here somewhere." "Angel" I lift his chin with a fingertip so he's looking up at me, "I was kidding." I pull it from behind his ear and roll it between my fingers, "It's here." A smile lights up his face as he takes it from me and turns it in his hands, "How did- I didn't teach you to do that." I smile, "No, but I watched you."
