Mark’s shoulders sagged. He sounded so tired. Mark told Donghyuck once that loving him was exhausting. That one had hurt. Donghyuck still thought about it when he couldn’t sleep, when it was late enough and quiet enough that Mark Lee could use the shadows to slip through his defenses.
Weddings were supposed to be a good time. But Maui's too hot, Renjun's a nightmare, Mark Lee is standing there looking as wrecked as the day he left Donghyuck for Vancouver and the space between them is suddenly feeling a lot smaller than an ocean.

It isn’t enough. Donghyuck doesn’t respond. The silence makes Mark blush, white noise too loud for his tired ears. He can feel the tension in the other boy’s shoulders, right under his palms, the weight of a whole invisible world pressing down, one that is not his to alleviate. He wants to do better, though. To try harder.
“I kinda want you to sleep in my bed tonight. With me.”
(The night is going fine until Donghyuck, Mark's roommate and his maybe-more-than-roommate-but-they-don't-talk-about-it, suddenly drops the news that he's moving out.)

He doesn’t. There’s a part of him that almost, almost wishes he had.
