Summary
The thing about Buck and chronic pain is that it doesn't start with the ladder truck.
It starts with showers, and the way his arms sometimes ache too much to clean himself properly. It starts with stairs, and how they make his heartbeat thud in his ears to the point of nausea. It starts with supplements, and how many of them he takes in hopes that they’ll make up for some unknown deficiency and fix it all. It starts with the continuous disappointment when none of them do shit.
The thing about Buck and chronic pain is that it starts before he even really knows what it is, and it never stops.
Or: Buck, Eddie, and an exploration of undiagnosed chronic illness.

Summary
“You gonna tell me what’s bothering you?” He asked Eddie from the doorway.
“Nothing to talk about,” was Eddie’s curt reply, pulling the silverware rack from the dishwasher and setting it on the counter.
Buck pushed off the doorframe and pulled the rack across the island to put away.
“I’ve got it,” Eddie said.
“It’s fine,” Buck replied. A pause. “At least talk to Frank about it.”
Eddie froze and recovered quicker than anyone could have noticed, except for Buck.
“Y-you don’t see Frank anymore.” It wasn’t a question.
“Don’t need to. I’m cured.” Eddie snorted.
“Dude, you’ve been manic for the past week.” Buck could feel the energy shift as Eddie’s back tensed more and more. He moved on to loading the dishes into the dishwasher.
Please let it hurt, Buck thought, skin itching for the brewing fight.
“I know what you’re doing Buck,” Eddie responded. Hands on the edge of the sink, shoulders hunched, Buck thought he looked like a god contemplating his creation.
“Is it working?” He asked.
Eddie finally turned to face him.
or, they fight and very important realizations are had.

Summary
Buck suffers a concussion at work, and stays with Eddie to recuperate. The intimacy of Eddie’s care brings to a head the feelings Buck has been trying to hide since Eddie came out as gay.
When Buck’s recovery suffers a worrying setback, he finds out that maybe he isn’t the only one keeping important feelings to himself.
——————————————
“It’s Ok, Buck. I got you. You’re Ok.”
Eddie.
“I dimmed the light. You can try again if you want. But only if you want, and only when you’re ready.”
Buck took a long moment to make sense of that. Then, once he’d worked out Eddie had somehow made it less bright, he cautiously opened his eyes again.
Better. It was better.
This time, things were a little more in focus. He saw Eddie. Eddie’s beautiful face. Wait, he wasn’t allowed to think Eddie was beautiful. Or was he? No. He could think it. Not say it.
That was important.
