Link hadn't realized it in that split second of choice, but he had made the worst decision of his life.
He plunged the blade of the Master Sword deep through the chest of Princess Zelda, hoping to fell the Demon Thief that puppeted her limp body. It was obvious that he'd made a mistake when the body laughed and blood pooled beneath its back. Yet he surged onward, knowing his victory would heal the wound.
But without her arrows, Hyrule was as good as gone.
The hilt of Ganondorf's sword hit the back of his head, and Link was unconscious even before Epona threw him from the saddle.
