He pauses a moment, abruptly shaking his arms out once–twice and takes a deep breath at the same time the patio door explodes open, the door slamming hard into the siding of the house. A zag of blonde trailed by a blur of colors streaks down the steps, and all the air he inhaled to center himself is forced out of his lungs as the streak slams into him.
“Hello, Poppy. Is nice to see you again,” Ilya gets out, wheezing slightly.

Summary
Ignoring his hard-on (for now) Ilya sits on the couch, alone in his apartment with his hands limply at his sides while he takes a beat, his brain reorganizing itself with the reality where one of the sexiest photos Ilya has ever seen of Shane exists and is out in the world and Shane is wearing the scarf that Ilya knit. Distantly Ilya thinks about his ice-cold cool guy we-can-fuck-however-you-want persona. He waves at it from the shore as that Ilya sets off for Valinor never to be seen again. Looking at it even longer makes a surge of embarrassment flood through Ilya. He can’t give this to Shane! It looks horrible. Shane will laugh at him. Ilya feels his heart rate start to pick up as his emotions shift from embarrassment to anger. What a waste of time. All of this and for what? To make something badly? Something ugly?
“Fuck,” Ilya swears as his phone rings with an incoming call. Ilya blinks, noticing that he has been clenching the scarf, pulling it taught, between two fits.
“Fuck fuck fuck.”

“No!” Ilya states a little too loudly in the hush of the cabin. He feels his face warm as he coughs again slightly, “No. I don’t mind. I was just wondering what–what is it? What are you doing?”
Anne’s face relaxes, smiling warmly at him as she turns towards him in her seat. “I’m knitting. A sweater for my niece to be specific.”

Summary
It’s a difficult concept for Shane to grasp, taking up space like that. Birthday parties are always so loud and demanding of everyone’s attention, and Shane doesn’t know how to handle it, always stressed that people don’t actually want to be there or are just patronising him. The idea that people want to get together to celebrate Shane, besides his parents and husband, is completely foreign to him. The idea that his hockey team would show up for his birthday is incomprehensible.

Rather than give him the joint, Ilya takes it back between his own lips and sucks in a deep breath, the tip glowing as he does so. Then, before Shane can process it, he’s reaching up and sliding one large hand around the back of Shane’s neck, pulling him down so their lips meet.
Shane gasps softly, and Ilya takes the opportunity to blow smoke into his open and waiting mouth.
