Summary
Something between a gasp and a sigh had graced his senses. The nape of his neck prickled icy-hot, and when she suddenly stopped, the sound of his pulse quickening was so loud it was heavy.
Hyrule’s hero had kept up a stream of swears in his head, breaking into a sweat. His fingers had tightened around the cloth of his shirt. And she’d just continued — a broken hiccup here, a torturous mewl there — for what felt like an eternity.
But it had only been the beginning of a long, very hard, night.

When he was first appointed as the Princess’ guard, Link did not know what lay ahead. Top of his class, and widely considered the most capable swordsman in Hyrule, he assumed that he would live a comfortable life following the Princess around until she became the Queen, if his retirement did not come first. What he did not expect was the extraordinary and all-consuming adventure that came to be.
And it all began with the words, "Oh, Link. I'm home."
(Or, Link finally starts to realise how he feels about Zelda after she returns from what he assumed would be an eternal fate as a dragon. Brave enough to save Hyrule (twice), but not enough to confront his feelings head-on.)

Summary
When the Shrine of Resurrection took his memories and the Calamity took his world, a flaw was exposed in the essence that carries the Soul of the Hero.
Link has learned to live with these moments of madness, with these memories of oceans and kingdoms and people he's never seen but that his soul bleeds when he least expects it. His life rebuilding Hyrule at Zelda's side has helped him make peace with past lifetimes and given him a bright future to strive for. Or, so he thought.
So he thought, until he was left without his arm, his sword, or his light while pieces of his oath rain like tears over her broken kingdom.
