Odysseus isn't upset. He's not. That would be ridiculous; he's a grown man staying at the most luxurious hotel the city has to offer for a business trip that could solidify the deal of a lifetime, which would in turn solidify the promotion of a lifetime. Grown men with that kind of a duty on their hands do not sit around and mope because their beautiful, perfect, wonderful wives and flawless little sons are a half hour late to their scheduled nightly FaceTime call.
And yet, here he is. Face down on his hotel bed, definitely, definitely moping.

“Patroclus,” he says, and he sounds on the verge of tears. Pa-tro-clus. Each sound has its own syllable, not clumsy and strung together like the technician or the salesman. He pulls back, looks over every inch of Patroclus, his green eyes wide and shining. “Are you alright? Are you okay?”
Peleus steps forward. “Achilles, son, don't crowd the poor thing. It was only just–”
“He.” Achilles corrects sharply. His eyes leave Patroclus's face only to glare at his father. “He. Not it. He's a person.”
He, Patroclus thinks. He. He's a person. A switch in his processing, in his thought. The LED ring in his forehead swirls, blue into flickering yellow into blue again. It–he–isn't a person, he knows. But if it will comfort Achilles to say so, then Patroclus will oblige.

Or, the d:bh-inspired au where Patroclus is an android bought to keep Achilles out of trouble. His memories have been corrupted beyond repair, and a close relationship is ripped back to square one, much to Achilles's dismay. But those memories are all that Patroclus is, and restoring them could be the key to--or the end of--everything.

“I have another boy at home,” the wistful king murmured, his words leaving his lips with the burdensome weight of memory. “Much older than you by now… the last I saw him, he wasn’t yet half your size. But he lives very far from here, on another isle across the sea.”
His own eyes stared back at him, unreactive to his words. His son was just an infant, but Odysseus realized that even if he were of rational age, he couldn’t possibly understand what he was saying. The child didn't know what existed beyond the idyllic, gilded shores of Ogygia. He didn't know of smiling people, and kingdoms, and war. The glittering isle had consumed the entirety of his life. Odysseus felt his grip around him tighten.
“You won't die on these shores, boy of mine. I swear it on my life.”

She's on her way to the fanciest college her parents can get her into, to get a degree in...something. Her father's in the hospital. She can't stop letting people talk over her. And finally, Noelle is hopelessly in love with another girl, and it's only a matter of time until her mother finds out.
Susie Sauria is entering her final year of High School. Susie knows that she's never going to be able to make anything of her life. She has one (1) friend, and is reasonably sure they'd ditch her if given the chance. She's teetering on the poverty line. Her father's a jackass. She wants to move out, but that would require her to have a place to go afterwards. And finally, Susie is stuck getting tutored by the smartest girl in her class, and it's only a matter of time until that too falls apart.
At the moment, they couldn't be more different. But through heartache and hardship, they'll find themselves inexorably drawn together. A lot can happen in one school year, and this is one that they're sure to never forget.
