Summary
Eddie's gaze lingers on him. Soft, fond, and just for a moment Steve feels a bit like a bug in an enclosure himself. Specifically, one of Eddie's favourite little bugs.
Something wet hits his shoulder.
Outside the enclosure, a child points at him and laughs.
"Wonderful," Steve mumbles, staring at the bird shit now decorating his sleeve.
"Oh, you got a little something…" Eddie reaches out towards Steve's hair, then pulls his hand back. "Well. Everywhere, really."

Steve works in the farmyard section of Hawkins Zoo, and spends his days mucking out barns and trying not to fall in love with his co-worker in the Insect House.
He fails.
A little orphan lamb, some nudging from his best friend, and a whole lot of chemistry brings him and Eddie together.

Eddie doesn't know how they've gotten to this place where sometimes Steve just turns up like a bad penny, bloodied and hurt, like he's looking to Eddie to fix it.
Eddie can't fix anything. He can't even fix himself.
He can't even graduate high school. He definitely can't fix Steve Harrington's internal or external wounds.
Or:
Eddie finds himself watching, year after year, as Steve Harrington turns up at his place of work, beaten and bloodied.

Summary
“Does your new special drink menu include an IV directly into my bloodstream by any chance?” Eddie asks as Steve turns the corner.
“If it did, we’d both be hooked up to drips by now,” Steve says, loading the coffee pot onto the warming stand and loading the small fridge beneath the counter with cartons of milk and cream. “I see you before I see the sun most days.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Eddie bends over the counter and Steve looks up, nearly colliding with Eddie’s chin.
Wild curls, warm eyes, toothy grin, minty toothpaste, woodsy cologne.
It’s enough to catch his breath, to weaken his knees, and he really can’t keep being stunned like this unless he plans on doing something very, very stupid.
Or, Steve's favorite customer at the coffee shop hosts a local early morning radio show. Between coffee and some of their favorite music, they might just fall in love.
