Summary
He enjoyed a night back in his own bed that night, having travelled by horse instead of flight, using it as a vacation from the never ending paperwork that awaited him back in his office.
There, in the Mingshi, he summoned the spirit of the member. Usually it would be against the rules to try this alone, but he was too embarrassed to ask another disciple for support. He couldn’t even ask his uncle, who was still busy teaching a class on the qin-language.
At least, the summoning was the plan, but when Lan Xichen released the haunted body part, he got a closer look. And he realised that he knew the tiny mole on the base of it all too well.
“Mingjue!”, he gasped. “Nononono, you should be whole and buried!”
With gentle hands he picked up the subject of his horror. “Oh Mingjue… my A-Jue.”
His presence seemed to calm the appendage, it did not attack nor wiggle from his cupped hands that could only just about contain it. All its inherent resentment seemed calmed, not dispersed, still present, but much less volatile than it was back in the brothel.Bookmarked by magtar

“One more thing,” Whitebeard said, stopping Ace before he jumped off, his voice turning serious. “The marines have been spotted in the area but they've been ignoring the island on the account of it being under our protection. Soon as you arrive, however, be prepared for them to try and swoop in. If they do, do not engage, Ace. And I am serious about that. I don't want you trying to take on an entire squadron by yourself. Just report back to us and I'll send help out your way.”
Ace bit his tongue as he nodded. He understood why his captain didn't want him getting involved with the marines- just look at what had happened last time- but it still irked him a bit. The marines were out there ignoring an island in crisis simply because it wasn't under their protection. Yet they would move in at the last minute to try and make it look like they were the heroes of the story.
“You hear me Ace?” Whitebeard questioned, bringing Ace's gaze up to his own. “Do not engage with the marines. You let us know immediately and we'll handle it, okay?”
Nodding, Ace assured him that he would. “Immediately and without hesitation.”
Or, Ace is sent on his first solo mission and because it's Ace nothing goes as planned.
