Summary
You like the life you've built for yourself in Vienna, you've worked hard for it and you've got plenty to show for it: you're rising through the ranks at a respectable clip and with god as your witness if you don't take first chair in the Opera by the time you're forty it'll only be because you've graduated to the Philharmonic instead. Music is your life's work, and you love it, love the act of pulling art out of thin air, temporary and ephemeral. But it's still work, both the dedication to the craft and the endless social acrobatics of kissing the right ass at the right time to always stay one step ahead of your lazier, less devoted colleagues, and it wears on the bones. Vienna is great, but it's not Sweden at your mother's for Christmas and it's not Italy with Alberto in summer.
Maybe it could be, though, if you gave it a chance.

Summary
The small quiet voice that had been diligently reminding you that it was all for the best, you did him a favour is slowly being drowned out by something else; a raging regret that only echoes how could you?
You haven’t listened to the first voice in quite a while.
(Meanwhile, Alberto also deals with the fallout.)

Summary
“Giulia. Coffee?” Luca asks from his seat at the kitchen table, in what he hopes is a pathetic enough tone that she’ll make it for him. Giulia gives him a sympathetic look over her shoulder, her hair already tied up in a messy bun. A curl bounces at her temple as she shakes her head.
“Sorry, Luca. All out.”
“Giulia…”
“It's fine, I have a better idea. You know where the science building is?” Luca nods as Giulia is already scribbling the directions on an old pizzeria-flyer, “There’s a little campus cafe just on the far side of the grass, you know where people sometimes study? My brother works there, just tell him I sent you and he’ll sort you out with something. You'll be caffeinated in no time.”
(Luca needs coffee and Alberto has coffee. Seems like a simple enough equation for something that ends up being anything but.)

Summary
Blackmail. Illegal porn. Undercover at a gay bar. The Nice Guys sure are at it again.
“Porn? I can throw a rock in this neighborhood and I’m gonna break the window of a porn store.”
March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Healy paused. “Ohhhhh. The nasty stuff. Whips and handcuffs. Girls and animals.”
“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”
“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”
For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.
Incriminating.

Summary
Jackson Healy is not a family man, nor is he a relationship man. He learned that one the hard way after the divorce.
So, can someone tell him why he’s standing at the cash register of a dollar store, watching Holland March fiddle with his wallet with a giant poster board under his armpit, while a pile of markers of all colors and stationery sits on the conveyor belt? Though he supposes that’s another one of life’s great mysteries, and something he’ll wake up every morning asking himself.

Summary
A few weeks after starting the Nice Guys agency March gets drunk, Healy gets a strange inkling, and Holly watches The Parent Trap.
Not for the first time, Jackson wonders why he agreed to this partnership. But there’s something he can’t quite put his finger on, something about the soft, hapless, helpless way March loves his daughter and knows what a screwup he is, that makes something funny happen inside Jackson’s chest. He hasn’t eaten yet today but it feels almost like his stomach is twisting, like he’s about to do something stupid and completely out of his own control even though Jackson Healy has always prided himself on how well he keeps himself under control.
Not food poisoning, Jackson thinks. March poisoning.
