Antinous huffed. “Maybe they do love you,” he said. “Your will, the breath of life. But not enough to save you.”
No, Telemachus thought. And I’d rather they kill me. Crush me.
He was rotten anyway - all that purity of a warrior Athene craved of him had decayed that night.
The gods had forsaken him. In thoughts, in will; do they have hearts, or simply held them? Telemachus banished the thought away. He could only hope his father’s reputation among Olympus had not been sullied.
Prayers were like a weed. They were devastating. Took up all his mind, because what else was there? Hope, that was. Or faith. The one that curled in his hollow ribs. The one that tore him apart. Every tissue, fiber—.
“Let me go,” he gasped. His voice was on edge. Fearful. Pleading.
(or: as Roman prince, Telemachus has two choices. To follow the wake of victory, or to die by a certain Goddess' hand. Underestimating an enemy, he falls to the mercy of a foreign prince. And thus, light dies.)

“I don’t want to play god. I’d like to, maybe, I don’t know,” he chews on his bottom lip. “But it’s so… lonely. Immortality.”
Antinous leans in. “What if it isn’t lonely?”
Telemachus rolls his shoulder. “Then it’s all encompassing,” he sighs.
An indomitable gaze; that wouldn't yield, not in gallows, not in the stake. “Yes,” agrees Antinous. “That is the point.”
Telemachus has met God. In the night, God made blood into wine. Telemachus has met God, in his own walls, the taste of heaven in his tongue. Telemachus knows God as teeth sinking into his neck. This is his and none will take it from him.

Summary
There is silence. Telemachus feels as if he’s free falling to the ocean, the wind there to sweep and strike him. Misery swathes him at the idea of loss. Of losing the one man that listens to his worried-soaked concerns, whose touch sends sparks of warmth through his body, whose praise Telemachus seeks in a faulty bid for reassurance.
“I could burnish your abilities,” it sounds like a siren’s hymn - a snare, a lure. Antinous’ smile is sharp, Telemachus has just started to notice: the edges, the danger. Power. “Sharpen them.”
