Falling into bed with Bradley Bradshaw hadn’t been on Jake’s bingo card after the uranium mission. Sure, he’d saved the guy’s life, but the two of them hadn’t exactly been buddy-buddy beforehand - after all, Jake hadn’t exactly been his best self with Bradley during mission training.
Even before the mission, Bradshaw had been nothing to Jake other than a mildly annoying blip on his radar. Jake had honestly all but forgotten about Bradshaw’s existence until he had sauntered into the Hard Deck three weeks ago, looking far more attractive than he had any right to in that stupid shirt.

Summary
Jake sees a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye. There’s a creature watching them from the waves.
It’s a seal, he quickly realizes. Big and bulky, fully adult. Coarse brown fur, huge black eyes, slick pelt. The seal is staring directly at Jake, something baleful and almost challenging in its manner. Now that he thinks about it, he’s certain he’s seen this same seal patrolling the waters around the island or sunbathing lazily on the black rocks.
It has a distinctive, recognizable whisker pattern: prominent and bushy, like a particularly bad mustache.
