Summary
"You want me," Jack said slowly, "to film you at your worst. As a deterrent."
"Exactly."
"For a hypothetical future pregnancy you're already planning to talk yourself out of."
"Yes."
He stared at her for a long moment.
Then he pulled out his phone.
The way he did it — one-handed, that small focused expression settling into his jaw — she thought, with total despair: this is the problem. This is the fucking problem.a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan is going to want to do this again.

Summary
"I know." But his jaw is clenched, his breathing careful. "Just — let me do this right."
And she understands then that he's scared, too. He’s the one who’s seen her through all of it, who knows her better than she knows herself sometimes. Jack loves her, and she knows he’s terrified of hurting her, of pushing too hard, of undoing the careful healing of the past three months.
His caution is love made physical.
a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan is finally medically cleared after giving birth.

Summary
There had been people once: her Appa, Amma before grief hollowed them both out and forced them into survival. There'd been a version of her childhood where she wasn't responsible for holding herself together, but that life felt impossibly far away now. It was more dream than memory, something glimpsed through frosted glass, or written in a language she was no longer fluent in. Sometimes, she even thought she'd imagined it entirely.
And then Jack would do something — open a door for her, remember how she took her coffee, reach for the back of her neck when she was overwhelmed — and she would be startled all over again by the realization that being cared for used to feel familiar.
a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan has a mild concussion, a split-brow, and no idea how to let someone care for her.

Summary
Swan courtship is an odd thing to witness from the outside. The pattern of almost manic preening, the choreography of their biological response synchronizing with their partner, a strange dance done in unison.
It’s beautiful, really, but Samira is grateful she didn’t have to find her mate that way. Developing feelings for her widower Attending seemed perfectly simple by comparison.
a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan does her Fellowship in Boston.

Summary
And then his lips find hers.
And she laughs into his mouth.
It escapes before she can stop it, breaking straight through the moment, bright and uncontained.
Jack smiles against her before dropping his head to her shoulder, and she has to cover her mouth as she shakes with it — the absurdity, the tension, the realization that in less than a week this will be her husband, and he still makes her feel like this.
“Sorry,” she manages through the residual giggles. “I wasn’t expecting that.”
a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan wants to practice kissing her soon-to-be husband, Dr. Jack Abbot.

Summary
He doesn’t stop looking at her as he carefully pushes a curl back behind her ear, the soft flush spreading across her brown skin growing warmer beneath his gaze.
“Sweetheart.”
She tilts her head up.
“You wanna come back here? You come back.”
His thumb brushes lightly against her cheek.
“I'll wait for you.”
The sides of her lips turn up, slowly.
“And if you wanna stay in New York," he continues quietly, refusing to look away, “then you stay in New York. Go be the future of medicine.”

Summary
It’s not that Samira doesn’t hear Jack when he comes in. She does: the muted jangle of his keys, the snick of the door closing. She’s just halfway in his fridge, is all, blearily rooting around for Greek yogurt and berries she hopes against hope haven’t begun to fuzz, so it isn’t until he greets her with “well, aren’t you up early,” that she turns and realizes he isn’t alone.
“Is that Baby Jane Doe?”

Summary
Samira’s cramps hit harder than anything she treated all day. Jack finds her folded in half in the break room and takes her upstairs to an on-call room to rest. She expects a lecture, maybe a heating pad. She does not expect him to offer the kind of “pain relief” only he can give.

Summary
“Fuck,” Jack groans as she pulls on his grey curls. He always did like pain. Who wouldn't at the hands of Samira Mohan?
He bites her lip in retaliation, rivulets of blood pooling. The sweet, metallic taste of her fills his mouth. He pulls back, a thumb brushing her lips, pulling it down, hard.
Samira pants heavily. Her lip snaps back as he lets go. He brings his thumb to his mouth and sucks the blood off, moaning, his cheeks hollowing.
She fights back a groan.
“Get down on the fucking floor.”
