    Their first meeting was in the League. At least, Jason assumed it was. In full honesty, much of his time before and after Talia brought him in — before she had the (not so) bright idea of dipping him in the Devil’s Mountain Dew — were blurred impressions of sound and pain and touch.

     

    And eyes. Green eyes. Brown eyes. Eyes looking down at him from places eyes reasonably shouldn’t be in.

    Taken into the League of Assassins for his powers, Peter Parker becomes the guard dog for their precious princeling. For a time, at least.

    Peter was alone, mid-way through an existential crisis after the Erasure™ and was dreading the upcoming month of May.

    Jason was sick of people telling him how he felt. ‘You don’t need us anymore,’ Artemis had told him, as if saying it would make it true. As if Jason needed someone to justify keeping them around. But three weeks back in Gotham and all Jason felt was fucking bored and lonely.

    It was a relief, then, when some random New Yorker was thrown into his living room through a portal straight out of some LSD daydream.

    Finally, something interesting to deal with.

    Cue some wild family misunderstandings, criminal conspiracies and cults.

    Because there’s always a goddamn cult.

    Jason, well-- Red Hood really, has a lot on his plate. It's a full time job to be a crime lord for Park Row for one, and an entirely separate full time job to fend off the unwelcome attentions of his extended (and estranged) family. So when a new vigilante appears as if from thin air in his neighborhoods causing trouble and making both of his other full-time jobs even harder? Well he doesn't have a lot of patience to spare for that. The cherry on top? A small quiet act of charity for a lost soul with big brown eyes has caused a slew of unforeseen complications, upsetting the already precariously balanced schedule. Getting one quiet, pretty, friendly Peter Parker, a crappy apartment in his building was supposed to help keep the guy from getting into trouble on Gotham's streets... so how was it possible that he could work for so many villains in-succession completely on accident?

    Jason landed, hard.

    He gasped in a breath and tried to shake free of the dizzying disorientation as he pushed himself up on shaking arms. The world swooped violently and he fell back down, jarring his chin on the rough ground. He closed his eyes against the nauseating swaying before he threw up.

    He swallowed harshly, forced the rising bile back down, and took slow, deep breaths. Just like Slade had shown him. He could practically hear the man’s voice in his head, as gruff and impatient as always.

    Orientate yourself, Jason. Find a weapon. Get somewhere defensible. Kill anyone in your way. Recon.

    He nodded along to the remembered instructions and forced himself to stand. He stumbled drunkenly for his first few steps but he wouldn't let anything stop him. Not ever again. Definitely not some stupid fucking dizziness.

    He staggered across the rough grain of the rooftop he had landed on. New York’s skyline stared at him across the East River.

    How the fuck had he ended up in Brooklyn?

    Fuck.

    He had to find Slade — he, at least, would know what to do.
