Summary
The small deer nodded sleepily, going gladly into Dess's arms so she could carry her the short distance to her bed, just like she was a little kid again. An indecipherable emotion roared in Dess's chest. She felt the need to capture this moment, keep it in a jar, or a snow globe, and keep it safe forever. Keep both of them safe, here, in the glow of the television screen. Her chest ached.
A set of vignettes following December holiday across some of the days leading up to the disappearance.

He knew that if it came to it, they could overpower him in a moment, and perhaps even banish him from existence, if they had to, the being laying on his lap in that moment felt small. It wasn't a wonderful day for them, eyes closed and skin dewy as their chest rose and fell with some labour. He brought his hands to their hair and slowly began to stroke it, tugging out knots and watching their face intently, memorising every eyelash, mole, and line. He was only grateful they laid themselves so bare to him. It was astonishing. If he was slightly less occupied, he would write down every detail.

Their elbows and knees and hips dig into each other, verging on uncomfortable. Ryan imagines inching closer, digging his hip in a bit more, to see if it hurts, but doesn’t.
The only noises are those of the magazine pages being softly turned, the rustling of clothing when one of them shifts or readjusts, and their breathing. Ryan’s gaze drifts down to Brendon’s chest. It rises evenly, in, out, in and out.

“Your house?” His oddly perfect features crinkle with deep offence, rising to his elbows. “Get out of my house.” Those eyes are so blue it’s comical, they don’t even look real.
“What,” Suguru does not have the patience for this right now. “No, get out.”
“This is my house! I live here! Peacefully before you came along.” He leans farther towards him, Suguru can’t even move away unless he breaks the wall, he swings and flies straight into the mattress when his good arm meets nothing. “Stop wrecking my shit. You’re an idiot.”

Suguru can't help but pause and admire the sight in front of him. The resentment in Satoru’s eyes is stirring something he didn't know existed. He finishes tying the knot and leans back to take him in. Satoru looks ethereal as the moonlight bathes him in a silvery glow. His white hair and skin shine under the illumination, giving him an almost angelic appearance. This perfect picture is completed by Satoru’s teary eyes, shining with suppressed anger.
He looks like a captured angel.
And Suguru has always preferred the role of the devil.
