    Summary

    “There you are,” Ilya murmured.
Shane exhaled shakily through his nose. “I’m sorry.”
    “For what?”
“For showing up like this.” Shane swallowed. “For being… weird.”
Ilya frowned immediately, almost offended by the suggestion. He slid one hand higher along Shane’s thigh, grounding him there.
“You got hurt,” he said softly. “Someone hit you very hard and your team lost and your brain is still running around in circles because you care too much about everything. Not weird.”
Shane laughed quietly at that, though it cracked in the middle. “You make me sound exhausting.”
“You are exhausting,” Ilya replied. “But I like exhausting.”

    OR

After a CCM shoot that neither of them can forget, Shane and Ilya begin an anonymous email exchange that becomes more real than anything they’ve said face to face. Together they explore where communicating emotions gets you. When Ilya disappears, his emails stop—but Shane keeps writing. One year later they are forced to confront everything they left unsaid and unsent.

Told through snippets of emails and intimate moments, they explore longing, learning how to be seen, and choosing someone—not just in the moment, but over and over, on purpose.

    Summary

Before they were hockey’s greatest rivals, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov were two fourteen-year-olds arguing anonymously on the internet.

One conversation became another, and suddenly they were talking every day. English lessons lead to game-tape analysis, late-night messages, phone calls, and secrets neither of them could tell anyone else. They become best friends. Then something more.

By the time they finally meet, the world has already decided they should be enemies. The hockey world will spend years watching them fight from opposite sides of the ice, never knowing they have been choosing each other since long before either of them was famous.

Or: Shane corrects Ilya’s English, Ilya teaches Shane how to want things, and they spend the next decade turning their rivalry into a shared home.

    Summary

Shane Hollander is Harbor High’s quiet hockey star: brilliant, disciplined, closeted, destined for the NHL, admired from distance but never understood. When his mother Yuna brings home Ilya Rozanov, a sharp-tongued Russian teen with nowhere left to go, Shane’s carefully controlled life begins to unravel. Ilya is carrying grief, secrets, and a past everyone is eager to judge. He is also annoying and now he's living in Shane's family's poolhouse. Shane can't stop looking at him.

Thrown together by circumstance, school, and (bad) parental choices, Shane and Ilya become impossible for each other to ignore. In a sunny world full of beach-house parties, polished lies, rich-kid cruelty, and hidden longing, their tangled up lives turns into something more dangerously exhilarating: love.

Or: Heated Rivalry, but make it The OC.

    Summary

The Japanese language only has two verb tenses; past and present. If one is gone and you can't seem to place yourself in the other, how do you move into a future without the dream that always led you? Shane Hollander has lost hockey; the ability to play and the access to his memories, nine years of accomplishments documented in stark contrast that he cannot seem to see past and find who he was.

Right now, he finds himself on a guided hiking trip everyone claimed would be a good idea, if only a goal to focus his rehab on. Shane doesn't believe he will find himself somewhere in the Canadian wilderness, but the outrageously flirty, forward Russian guide that keeps him upright through every stumble is at least a welcome distraction from the emptiness looming ahead. One foot in front of the other, one step at a time. Sometimes, we don't actually need a direction to start moving.
