Summary
“Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum–” Latin, it was Latin. Grace wasn’t religious, never really was, but he recognized the words for what they were: a Latin prayer.
Ok, that’s one step closer to figuring out how to communicate with this stranger. Sure, Grace wasn’t fluent in Latin, but he knew the very basics. Grace stood there, watching the man, and trying to rack his brain for any phrases that could help in this situation (no, how to order a drink would not help, but thank you, brain).
Then, it came to him– he remembered having to deal with a transfer student a while ago, one who knew English, but Latin was their main way of communicating. “Salve, tutus es [Hello, you are safe]."

OR! Small oneshot where Simon's first words are a Latin prayer, so Grace goes on to think Simon only speaks Latin...except, he's not entirely right.

He pauses the second the coffee hits his tongue, blinking down at his mug like he's seeing it for the first time again.
"What? Did I not make it right?"
"No, it-" Graces shakes his head.
Simon is paused awkwardly by the table, one arm half outstretched as if ready to take Grace's mug at any moment and replace it with more perfect coffee somehow.
Grace swallows. "It's perfect."
You really remembered? he doesn't say. It didn't quite hit him earlier and it feels like a sucker punch to the gut now. Simon remembers how he takes his coffee after years of no contact when his last failed situationship a mere six months ago could barely remember that Grace wasn't his first name.
