Park Sunghoon, the university's hockey captain, isn't actually failing Calculus II. But when deliberately bombing a midterm is the only way to get the fiercely intelligent, organized Economics major assigned as his peer tutor, it's a sacrifice he's more than willing to make.
Yang Jungwon just wants to survive the semester, keep his 4.0 GPA intact, and avoid campus gossip at all costs. He doesn't have time for a supposedly clueless athlete who keeps buying him coffee, invading his personal space, and offering up his umbrella in the rain.
It really is a flawless plan. Well...until it isn't.

The thing was, he had been trying to get Ni-ki's attention for almost five months. By that point, he had used nearly his entire arsenal. Shirtless photos, late-night selfies alone, an open question box on Instagram, even sharing a post from one of those artists he loved on his stories.
His friends kept saying that maybe he should be more direct, and Jungwon liked to pretend to be clueless, arguing that he didn’t know how to do that, even though it was usually very easy for him to make his intentions clear at any party or hangout when he was interested in someone.
But the thing was, Ni-ki wasn’t just a casual fling, or at least Jungwon didn’t want him to be.
Or, where Jungwon had never been so desperately in love with someone in his entire life, and that party was the perfect opportunity to finally confess to Ni-ki, or so he thought.

“you’re sim jaeyun,” jungwon says it the same way you’d say the sky is blue. “you’re one of the most well-known people on this campus. you’ve got the face and the social circle and the energy and you’re suddenly paying attention to a guy who has, by his own apparent social strategy, been invisible for three years. he probably thinks it’s a joke.”
jaeyun lifts his head. “a joke?”
“a prank,” jungwon clarifies, stirring his coffee. “a bet. the popular guy suddenly being nice to the nerd. he’s probably waiting for the punchline because from where he’s standing, there has to be one.”
the words land somewhere uncomfortable in jaeyun’s chest.
or: sim jaeyun does not develop crushes on shy nerds who colour-code their biology notes— except, apparently, when it rains.
