Summary
In 106 AG, Katara lives in Wolf Cove after her breakup with Aang a year ago. Feeling damn isolated in the South Pole, she jumps at the chance to help when Zuko struggles with the weight of his duties as Firelord, which affects his bending. She travels to Caldera to provide her healing powers and takes Zuko on a vacation to Ember Island, where they are confronted with their complicated past and unresolved feelings for each other.
Zuko has some serious issues. Worst of all, his bending is fucking out of control, leading to him burning from the inside out on a regular basis. In a weak moment, he shares his condition with his uncle and Katara. It's explained to him that the loss of control over his bending is caused by the stagnation of his chi and blocked chakras. He's confronted with all his fucked-up issues when Katara, the woman he's always had feelings for, shows up determined to help his condition.

It was a brilliant plan, all things considered.
On paper and in the eyes of the public, they were a charming if oddly mismatched couple who somehow found love despite their differences. A fairy tale come to life, sighed the more romantic members of Ba Sing Se society.
So it was almost a shame that Katara's courtship with Prince Zuko was ultimately nothing more than an act - otherwise, they might have been a perfect match, if not the perfect partners in crime.
