Summary
"Manny, disengage camera seven and bring up cameras eighteen and nineteen." The Rhino blooms into view as the cameras switch, and Gwen narrows her eyes. "He went left, down between the post office and the corner store."
"Got it!" Peter chimes, his voice a little metallic through the comm. He swings into view on the third screen down, and as he clocks the person tied up in Rhino's grasp his mask lenses widen in surprise. "Oh boy, I know who that is. That's Mr. Jameson's son."

Summary
Tamsy’s open eye flicks toward the sound. For a moment, he thinks he’s finally crossed over.
The sky above him opens up. Not literally, he knows that, somewhere in the rational scraps of his mind, but the light blurs and splits, and a shape forms in the haze, standing just beyond the foot of his bed.
Of course this is how it happens. Not trumpets or choirs or brilliant pearly white gates, but a quiet figure in a sterile room. Typical. Even his death is understated. He almost laughs.
A boy stands at the foot of his bed. Ash colored hair falls into his eyes, catching the glow and turning almost silver. His eyes themselves are wide and strangely luminous, red as fresh blood, stark against skin washed ghostly pale by the hospital glare.
An angel, Tamsy thinks, distantly. The drugs make everything feel possible.
“Are you here,” he croaks, voice shredded to threads, “to take me to heaven? Are you an angel?”
The boy startles, face turning pink. “What—no! I’m not—” He cuts himself off, scrambling backward a step, nearly tripping over his own feet. “I’m not an angel!”
____Tamsy never believed in angels until one appeared before his bed in the burn unit.

Summary
Rudo’s not a bad kid. At least, that’s what Regto says.
She’s got a big heart, he insists, even if she uses her fists more than her words. One that could shine if she’s in a safer, more controlled spot away from the constant beatdowns and ridicule.
So he’s packing her off to this fancy boarding school (not a boot camp, he swears), loaded with strict rules and stuck up girls who stare like she’s trash blown in from the slums. Not exactly looking forward to it, but Regto promises it’ll be fine. Says an old friend of his will look out for her.
Rudo just wants to keep her head down and get through the year without fucking everything up.
Except when Rudo meets the scarred headmistress with yellow eyes that pin you like a bug, with her soft touches and candy sweet whispers that Rudo’s rage isn’t a curse but a fire worth stoking, she’s not sure help is the only thing on offer from Tamsy.

Summary
“Don’t call me a dog, shitface,” she grumbles, half hearted.
“Not a dog,” Tamsy hums. “My dog.”
Rudo’s mouth opens in outrage, then closes again when she sees the smile tugging at Tamsy’s lips. Oh how Tamsy just loves to confuse her. “You’re full of crap.”
Tamsy reaches into her pocket, pulls out a piece of hard candy she pocketed earlier from the village clinic’s jar, and holds it out between two fingers.
Rudo eyes it suspiciously. “Are you… bribing me?”
Tamsy just winks. “Sit, stay, roll over, I’ll start teaching you commands next.”
She thinks Rudo might actually bite her for that one, but to her delight, Rudo snatches the candy and shoves it in her mouth with a defiant glare, like she’s proving a point. Her cheeks puff slightly as she sucks on it.
Tamsy grins. “Good girl.”
“Shut up,” Rudo mumbles around the candy, face flushing deeper. But she doesn’t spit it out.
