Zani was being worked to the brink of collapse, her body and mind both fatigued to the point of exhaustion. She'd worked at least 100 hours this week alone... Carlotta was short on people like Zani, so when something happened, she relied heavily on Zani to get things to work smoothly. Be that as it were, Zani had no time to live, no time to do errands, and absolutely no time to bask in her beautiful girlfriend's presence from time to time.
Phoebe is an avid follower of the Order and the Church. She faithfully worships the Sentinel (even after its passing), and travels around Rinascita to bestow upon its citizens the blessing of the Sentinel. It's not the most financially fulfilling job, but it's more than worth it to Phoebe. To help, to give, it was in her nature. Perhaps that was why she never argued with her girlfriend over her horrid work/life balance, and simply let the topic go until now.
But alone in their bed for the seventh night in a row, Phoebe feels her heart start to break. It feels like Zani isn't even hers, as if she belonged entirely to that stupid stupid Montelli woman. She didn't mean that, but it hurt her feelings.
They needed to talk. Soon, preferably.
