Summary
Repressed, early 20s Carol Sturka moves to Albuquerque for a new start. When she goes to a gay bar she finds someone she doesn't know she's ready for.
OR
Rubbing the back of her neck, “Gee, don’t admit your never-ending devotion to me before having had dinner.” It comes out shakier than she anticipated.
Helen looks genuinely amused at the comment, while also understanding Carol needs to be handled with more precision than she perhaps foresaw.
“So, what brought you here tonight, Carol?” Helen’s eyes still laser-focused on her.Bookmarked by Tvwhore22

Summary
When travelling for business, there were rarely opportunities to take pleasure in it. One’s thoughts were fixated on the lines they’d encounter just trying to board their flight on time, and then, in midair, with how they would arrive to the hotel and what restaurant they’d venture to for dinner before returning to a bed that wasn’t their own in preparation for a tomorrow filled with meetings in a strange city. Helen, despite the added weight of work, enjoyed this novelty, and often texted Carol the little pleasures she’d allowed herself, staying connected by a thread of short words and brief photos while occupying different time zones. But the real pleasure, of course, was stepping off the plane at the Sunport and striding across brick floors with warm, dry desert air filling her lungs and home filling her vision. This is my airport. This is what it smells like: cold brick and warm sand. These are my people.

Summary
A collection of one-shots,
usually one day per chapter, in no particular order,
following Carol and Helen through twenty-seven years of banter, bad decisions, quiet mornings, frozen eggs, loud fights, ice hotels in Norway,
and the particular intimacy of two people who know each other so well that silence is its own conversation.***********
Summary for Chapter 3 | The Bavarian Alps | Rating: G
Carol has already made her peace with two weeks of hiking and Helen's relentless optimism about the Alps. What she has not made her peace with (and what Helen's limited German failed to warn her about), is the fact that their final campsite permits a dress code best described as “optional”.

Summary
Carol Sturka is the forty-seventh President of the United States, and the most convincing thing about her presidency might be her marriage to Julian Vane, which is warm and genuine and entirely platonic. Helen Umstead, who serves as her Press Secretary, is the woman who sees through all of it, and who Carol cannot stop noticing in ways that have absolutely nothing to do with press strategy. After a Republican senator starts questioning the true nature of the marriage and an emergency in the Arctic forces the administration into intense scrutiny, Carol or Helen learn that the White House contains no space more hazardous than any room that leaves the two of them alone.
